After last month’s terrible earthquake that left more than 36,000 people dead in the south of the country, the United Nations on Thursday made a plea for more than $1 billion to aid more than 5 million people in Turkey over the coming three months.
The people have “faced indescribable grief,” according to UN assistance director Martin Griffiths, who visited Turkey last week. He added: “We must stand with them in their darkest hour and ensure they receive the care they need.”
