Adele, Ed Sheeran turn down King Charles’ invitation to perform at coronation concert in May

According to reports, King Charles extended an offer to Adele and Ed Sheeran to play at his approaching coronation in May. The two award-winning singers were among the performers the monarch had suggested for his coronation concert. While Adele apparently has no upcoming shows beyond March, Ed supposedly has a scheduling difficulty.

The coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camilla as the King and Queen of the United Kingdom will take place on May 6, 2023 at Westminster Abbey, and a special performance in celebration will be held on May 7, 2023. After his mother, Elizabeth II, passed away on September 8, 2022, Charles was crowned king.

King Charles was eager to see Adele and Ed perform, according to an online article in OK magazine. According to a source, “Adele and Ed were on The King’s list of performers he’d like to see, among other names. He wanted them to be a part of the concert very badly.”

The insider continued, “A team was formed to sign up the talent, so they approached the two of them. But, they received responses indicating that they were unavailable, which was a huge letdown. They are titans of the entertainment business, distinctly British, and well-known all over the world. It’s so unfortunate.”

Due to a conflict in his schedule, award-winning musician Ed Sheeran, who is best known for his smash hit song The Shape of You, may not be able to attend on May 6. On his globe tour, Ed is now in Sydney, Australia.

Adele is not expected to perform in this year after March 25. She is taking the stage in Las Vegas as part of the limited-edition Weekends With Adele concert series, which runs through March. She recently received the award for best pop solo performance at the 65th Grammy Awards for the song Easy on Me.

The Spice Girls, Lionel Richie, and pop musician Harry Styles are also rumoured to have been invited as guests to the show. Some performers have not received any official confirmations from Buckingham Palace.

Prince Harry, the son of King Charles, has not yet indicated if he will attend the coronation. In 2020, Harry and his spouse Meghan Markle stopped doing royal obligations. In December of last year, they made a special Netflix docuseries called Harry & Meghan, in which they discussed how they split from the rest of the royal family. A number of discoveries concerning the royals were also made in Harry’s autobiography, The Spare, which was published in January.
